The Waugh household must have had bittersweet feelings about 25th January, 1991. Their younger son Mark scored a century on debut for Australia on that day. But the man he had replaced in the team was his elder brother Steve. It wasn't the end of the road for Waugh Sr. though and the two played 105 Tests together.

In 2009, the Morkel family went through similar emotions when their younger son, Morne, was dropped to make way for the debut of his elder brother Albie. Albie's Test career, however, lasted one match despite a gutsy 58 on debut apart from a few wickets. Morne would go on to have a much longer career though while his brother would establish himself as one of the first T20 specialists.

These are the only two instances of a brother replacing a brother to make his Test debut.
