Yes, the tallest in English cricket and one of the shortest in English cricket often batted together. And they formed quite a special partnership. I have no clue how did the bowers adjust their lengths when bowling to a 6'10 William Jefferson and a 5'4 James Taylor batting together. Probably, that's the reason behind their fruitful stints in the middle.

Well, height surely didn't prove to be the decisive factor in Taylor's career, even though Kevin Pietersen thought it would. Jefferson didn't ever turn out for England while Taylor had a blossoming career cut short only by a heart ailment. The 'high-light' of his career for me remains his two 60 plus knocks against a Pakistani bowling attack led by the tallest ever cricketer,Mohd Irfan.

He might not have had the most sparkling of careers but, for me, James Taylor would always remain a remarkable character to have come out of the game who defied odds and misgivings about his short stature to ply his trade for England at the highest level.
