Where's a story in this photo you might ask? Look closely.

It's a photo from 2002. In the final ODI against India at Vijaywada, a young Samuels blew the Indian bowling attack to smithereens on his way to a series-winning 108*. After completing his maiden ton, he took out a piece of red cloth from his pocket and waved it in celebration.

The little red piece of cloth was actually a part of a bigger piece of cloth that formed Steve Waugh's lucky red handkerchief.

Samuels met Waugh only in his second ODI when West Indies toured Down Under. Chasing 268, West Indies could only score 193 and the only semblance of resistance came from a young Samuels' bat who scored 57. As Waugh saw more of the right-hander, he was fairly impressed. In fact, he was so impressed with the youngster that he parted with a piece of his lucky red-handkerchief when he asked for it. Mind you, Waugh had kept it with him since 1993 (barring one series in Pakistan).

In an interview done before this series, Waugh had seemed pretty disappointed on Samuels not getting any of his luck with the piece of red cloth. In hindsight, much to India's dismay, all luck came together, it seems, on that day for Samuels and India lost the series.

Bloody Steve Waugh!
