Random Cricket Photos Post 16
There is a certain romance about the Indian Cricket League that refuses to leave despite its last season being held a good decade ago. There is no doubt it was bad. In fact, It was terrible at times. But discussions around it today still stretch for hours. One mention of it and all the guessing games around it start. Do you remember Jason Gillespie played for which team? Do you remember which team Nathan Astle turned out for? Do you remember which former English captain used to be a commentator in those matches?
But something that I remember the ICL personally for are the team kits. The worst of which were those of Chennai Superstars. Provogue, who designed kits for all the teams, made Chennai players wear a jersey with Green, Pink and White colors. There were grey stars as well and some pink stripes on white background. You would need some special kind of psychedelics to come up with that combination.
Himanshu Mody, the other Mody who was the architect of the league and the business chief of Zee, later recalled them as 'awful and a pain to look at.' James Astill in his book 'The Great Tamasha: Cricket, Corruption and the Turbulent Rise of Modern India' compared them to the Rwandan prison uniforms. I can't think of a jersey uglier than this.
What's your ICL memory, if any?
