Random Cricket Photos Post 21
A teenager with an experience of just 5 First Class matches was thrown into the deep end when he was given his Test debut against England in 1995. And one may choose to look at what followed through the lens of statistics, which aren't bad at all, but for Paul Adams what mattered was just enjoying his stint at the highest level of cricket.
Nothing describes the man better than this photograph. Called the 'Frog in the Blender' by England's Mike Gatting for his quirky action, here is Adams, happily posing with a Frog in a Blender.
An entertainer who sometimes did even crazier somersaults after picking up wickets, Adams in a recent podcast revealed that as crazy as his action may seem, that's the only way he knew to bowl from the time when he began bowling. But his action was the freaky bit of his bowling that one could see. What one couldn't see was even more bizarre. According to the book 'South Africa’s Greatest Bowlers: Past and Present', the Chinaman bowler uniquely gripped the ball with only two fingers, his thumb and index finger, which in theory should have meant that he could not control the delivery.
In a podcast episode, Adams even went on to say that even when he bowled fast early in his cricketing career, his action used to be the same. Well, the world did see him flummox batsmen when bowling his tweakers with that action. But to imagine someone bowling fast with that action that puts my brain in the blender!
