Random Cricket Photos Post 2
If you haven't gotten it by now already, I have a major thing for witty banners on cricket grounds. This is one of them.
Context: South Africa vs Australia at the Wanderers. Day three on March 2nd 1997 began with the game poised evenly after South Africa had scalped 4 Australian wickets for 191 after scoring 302 themselves. A few quick wickets on day 3 might have exposed the tail and given them an edge in the Test.
NOT A SINGLE WICKET FELL IN THE ENTIRE DAY.
Steve Waugh joined Greg Blewett and the two of them soaked up all the pressure to hit glorious centuries and double centuries respectively and stitch together a 385 run partnership. Pretty Laxman-Dravidesque, only that this time they were not that deep in trouble that India was in 2001.
A demoralised South Africa, after fielding for close to 200 overs had no answers to the guile of Shane Warne before Chinaman Michael Bevan wrapped up the tail to inflict a heavy defeat.
On the backdrop of that match turning humongous partnership between Waugh and Blewett, some creative fellow came up with this banner with some interesting word plays - If this was a war(WAUGH) South Africa, then you blew it (BLEWETT).
