Greg Chappell was a terrible terrible man.
Well, that's not me saying. But that's possibly the soundbyte you'd have gotten out of the man who faced the wrath of the former Australian captain on February 26th, 1977. And also the man who met a similar fate at the MCG two years later.
It was the second day of the second match of the Test series against New Zealand which was being played at Auckland's Eden Park. So, naturally, it didn't take a streaker a lot of time to run to the middle of the pitch. And the man did it in style, wearing nothing but headphones. Of course, when you do something so courageous, you better have some background music to it.
Unfortunately, for him, he was the third streaker of the day and at this point, Chappell lost it. But the wily Australian had a plan. He extended his arm to the charging streaker as if to shake hands with his admirer. And once he got hold of the hand, he didn't leave it until he landed some heavy bat-blows on the anterior and the posterior of the man.
While the streaker was taken away by the guards, Chappell, who had nicely settled in and scored a 50 lost his concentration and his wicket soon after he was given a dodgy run-out decision that ended his innings at 58.
Two years later, Chappell was at it again, this time strategically placing his Gary-Nicolls on a streaker sporting a mullet and a cigarette. And a reddened anterior later on, most probably. This photo is from that match. When you play the West Indies and can't beat them, you beat the streaker instead.
Clearly, Guru Greg didn't like a lot of things starting with the letter 'S'.
